Guest Post: The Indivisibility of Liberty by Mary Ruwart

Presidential Candidate for the LP Mary Ruwart has one of the best policy platforms of all the candidates in this presidential race. If I lean toward her in my own thoughts and AM NOT the "doctrinal objectivist Ayn Rand misogynist" that Dana feels our pole of libertarianism has to be, then I have to ask for your indulgence. I do not think Dana really believes that, but he brings up an important point, are Libertarians selfish? As a left-libertarian or left leaning libertarian I should take more time to explain what that means. Basically it is the same dyed in the wool answer you'd get from anyone who thinks deeply about politics and society but has trouble expressing it, I love this country, its liberty, and its people's aspirations on their OWN terms, and in their OWN stunning diversity. Maybe the best way to express it is to suggest if you are really interested you get a copy of way Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and enjoy the profound diversity of the New York h...

An alternative strategy for Third Parties in the General Election

Let's start with the obvious: no matter how much I would prefer otherwise, one of the following three individuals (Clinton, McCain, or Obama) is going to be the next President of the United States. To me this means that no matter whatever else happens, none of them are going to do anything serious about dismantling America's worldwide military empire or reducing the grip that the military-industrial complex has on our government and our economy . If you don't believe me, go here , here , and here . That said, what the Ron Paul phenomenon proved earlier this year is that there are a hell of a lot of discontented voters out there willing to challenge the two-party system . The Libertarian Party. The Constitution Party. The Green Party. The "I'm Ralph Nader and I'm back again" Party. Of these, only the Libertarians have the ballot access to mount a truly nationwide campaign--which in large measure explains the opportunistic conversions of Bob Barr and M...

A Libertarian Manifesto for Delaware and the United States

Look, quite frankly I’m tired of people who are carefully calculated about their views, and who will not stand up and talk about exactly what they’d like to see happen. I’m also trying to clarify exactly what I do believe, thinking of myself as I do as a Pragmatic Libertarian. So while I could probably never be a winning candidate even for dog-catcher with this agenda, and while it conflicts in many places with the National Libertarian Party’s Platform (or, I think it will, once they get their heads out of their asses and adopt one), this is my work in progress. Feel free to criticize, add, suggest, laugh, vomit. . . . . As for you Libertarians, ask yourselves where Bob Barr or Mike Gravel stand on most of these issues.... National Issues Foreign and Military Policy: 1. Repudiate the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war. Our country survived the Cold War, with a nuclear arsenal aimed at us that was large enough to incinerate 100,000,000 Americans in a single evening, and we did not sink t...
