We Have One Country and it is Called America....

This week Narco-Sphere news drops another bomb shell . That is war funding in Iraq included a supplemental provision for funding the militarization of Mexican society and that the money will be used by groups like Blackwater. Essentially setting up our own right-wing paramilitary group for Latin and Central America, and it will likely be used against all the normal countries we use this for: Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil. This is combined with the fact that we have re-activated the American 4th fleet to dominate the naval lanes of the Caribbean and Latin America is very bad news. As a descendant of a founder, and long line of naval officers, usually I'd say how happy I am, but in this case without a firm commitment to work with the other countries of the OAS to interdict right and left wing paramilitary drug cartels, I have no such enthusiasm. Clearly this is being used to dominate naval lanes in the way the Athenian Navy did, as gunboat diplom...

Book Review: Chalmers Johnson's Nemesis & Fascism

If you want to get a clear idea of why we are in the economic and financial situation we are in, and how things will only get much worse as long as we continue with our foreign policy strategy, there no better book to read than Chalmers Johnson's Nemesis . The third in his series that chronicles what he calls- and I agree- is the " tragedy of American imperialism ," this book review and article give you much to think about if you are at all interested in redeveloping a sound American Economy . I recommend reading it with Chris Hedges book American Fascists so those of you like Jonah Goldberg who are confused about what fascism is, or who are elitist and meet all of Umberto Eco's 14 criteria for being lulled into fascism without knowing it, can start to understand its dynamic and social drivers and what this kind of movement it is and why it is inherently anti-American . If you take time to read all the articles here critically, you will see why, we Americans have ...

Effective use of the 9th &10th Amendments....

Some like to say that in an increased era of federalism state's rights are a thing of the past. Only someone forgot the 9th & 10th Amendments of the Constitution which gives states their right to ask for anything they want on behalf of the people- now if Delaware would only do the same: RESOLUTION AS PASSED BY HOUSE 2007-2008 State of Vermont House of Representatives Montpelier, Vermont House Resolution H.R. 11 House resolution calling for the orderly withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq to commence immediately Offered by: Representatives Fisher of Lincoln, Ancel of Calais, Aswad of Burlington, Atkins of Winooski, Bissonnette of Winooski, Botzow of Pownal, Bray of New Haven, Brooks of Montpelier, Cheney of Norwich, Clarkson of Woodstock, Condon of Colchester, Copeland-Hanzas of Bradford, Davis of Washington, Deen of Westminster, Donovan of Burlington, Dostis of Waterbury, Edwards of Brattleboro, Emmons of Springfield, Frank of Underhill, French of Randolph, Gilbert ...

How many times do I have to say it....

....the problems with the economy do not stem from consumption related issues, they stem from 1.) the lack of domestic production, and 2.) super liquidity. Overall there are too many dollars floating around in the economic system to try to "provide full employment and low interest rates," to use Bernanke's words, while not creating opportunity through the productive mechanisms of the economic structure. So basically, what he means is that after Wall Street has been slathered with enough green to cover a St. Paddy's day festival in Ireland , and the value of the dollar collapses, we will need an alternate way to fuel the economic structure. This can be done in three ways, 1.) by opening the economy up for the average person to competing currencies and the use of commodities as trade items, or a return to the use of "silver and gold" as legal tender or 2.) through a political and populist redistribution of wealth and 3.) through continued aggressive warfare t...

Our Confusing Economy- Mike Greenberger in Laymen's terms

When Mike Greenberger is not playing lawyer and defending the rights of American citizens, he has an interesting article on the Hamdan case for those interested, he is also an economist. In this NPR interview he explains our confusing economy in layman's terms. This is an important exposition about why so many people are feeling the crunch of the credit crisis and housing devaluation.... if you do not listen to anything else this weekend, listen to this..... http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89338743&sc=emaf

American Economic News, Politics & The Ship of State: A Picture of the Day in Review

Since Steve and Tyler are taking a moment to vent , there is something I need to get off my hairy chest by way of a day in review. Let's dive right in.... While Carl Ichan continues to make financial and business deals in a way that will position his companies for a bright financial future. The same cannot be said for Henry Paulson or the U.S. housing market . And while weaker economic growth led stocks lower for a second day after what I call the "fools rally" American equities and ownership of resource shares globally is on the same track as Her Majesty's Northern Rock Bank. With both Social Security and American medical programs like Medicaid and medicare driving up the demand for services . You may ask, well, how does having programs like Medicaid and Medicare drive up demand? Well they do, they in essence are government mandated programs that control and periodically increase costs for services to make the managers of HMO's and group managed health care rich ...

It is the Economy Stupid- But it is Not a Game of Morality

In a real economy and not a tragic morality tale personal and economic liberty preclude the ideas of corporate welfare. Economic liberty is a mechanism of trust, hard work and capital investment. An amoral market is defined by the unseen laws of economics. It either values its productive forces or wastes them. These are laws as a regular a clockwork. For years now we have been operating on an unsustainable platform of corporate subsidies, non-free market policies and government support and stagnation in unsound financial vehicles in a mercantilistic economy. Drawing from the lessons of Adam Smith, who was dealing with the same phenomena, and John Nash's revision of Adam Smith that defines it precisely one can see why maximum economic liberty and personal liberty go hand in hand and are opposed to rigid or hierarchical control. They are horizontal systems that allow people to move up or down based on ability. They are in essence a neutral scale people can move along. The two systems...

Currency Diversification and a Peaceful World Order

Here is my discussion with Democrats and Republicans about creating a peaceful world order and world financial system that does not rely on any special providence or " Boltzmann floating brain" society to bring about. Please comment on some of these ideas.... http://www.delawareliberal.net/2008/03/15/were-number-two-were-number-two/#comments

When in doubt, ask Becky . . . .

. . . for a better explanation of the continuing collapse of our economy. How the Feds Tanked Our Economy is a brutally well-reasoned post from the Girl in Short Shorts that spares absolutely no one involved in the debacle that is currently the US economy. My favorite bit is the closing: But, it is quite appropriate that , along with the Bubble Rubble, this era now ends with the loan sharks driving up the price of oil, and the rest of us filling our tanks courtesy of Payday Loan. If I keep sending you to her on a daily basis, sooner or later you may realize you don't need me. Oh well, that's probably why her Technorati Rating is five times mine. Doesn't matter: essential information.

Brutality & The New Reality: Taxi to the Darkside

One thing is for sure, a reformation in the Islamic world is much better than the destruction of the Islamic world. This weekend watching from Carlata Gall and the BBC is enlightening about the way that brutality and reality meet to form a new set of rules in the American war on terrorism. It follows that my prediction of a ham handed response to a human problem is the cause of new forms of extremism for the "terrorism industry." It shows less incoherence in the system then you would think at first, and it is not the work of a few bad apples, and it illustrates more systemic problems within our ability to effectively manage people we do not understand or who "some nameless 'we' do not care about" and are managed for us, to quote Adolous Huxley. The film is called the "Taxi to the Dark Side" and has won critical acclaim around the world. It is a sad contrast with my humorous posts and I am posting the whole thing here for your viewing with one quest...
