Just let them wear burqas

British author Nick Ross argues that dressing "provocatively" is the equivalent to leaving your laptop on the seat of an unlocked car:
The main argument of my book is this: we can aggravate crime by tempting fate, and we curb it by playing safe. We have come to acknowledge it is foolish to leave laptops on the back seat of the car. We would laugh at a bank that stored sacks of cash by the front door. We would be aghast if an airport badly skimped on its security….  Our forebears might be astonished at how safe women are today given what throughout history would have been regarded as incitement … 
Then there's this:
He says things like, “Rape is one of the most defiling crimes and there is never excuse or justification for it.” Then he says, “In any other crime we take account of provocation and contributory factors. Even in murder. Why not with sex?” And he wonders why readers are a little confused.

And if you drove around in a 20 year old POS you wouldnt be tempting people to car jack you; and if you did have a structure made of wood people wouldnt feel the need for arson; and if you didnt have such cute kids pedophiles wouldnt have such control issues;

but then again, "provocative" fashion has been around for a long time. get over it assholes. or better yet, enjoy it.

I once read that a high percentage of men have rape sexual fantasies. I wonder why the author doesn't attribute this tendency in some men as the cause of rape and not to how women dress. I suspect the male rapist brings the "stuff" that is both necessary and sufficient to cause rape to the act of rape and how a woman dresses has nothing to do with it.

As the mother of a 16 year old daughter comments like Ross' make me sick to my stomach.

Love the "women as property" theme running through his rape apologist arguments. Incitement? Really?

And I'm sick of the "Men can't control themselves around a 'provocatively' dressed women, so if women don't want to be raped..."

Not only is this blatant victim blaming, but it's horribly insulting to men - MOST of which have no problem controlling themselves.

The Obligatory Libertarian Tax Day Post

The most disturbing factoid that I learned on Tax Day was that the average American must now spend a full twenty-four hours filling out tax forms. That's three work days. Or, think of it this way: if you had to put in two hours per night after dinner to finish your taxes, that's two weeks (with Sundays off). I saw a talking head economics professor on some Philly TV channel pontificating about how Americans procrastinate. He was laughing. The IRS guy they interviewed actually said, "Tick, tick, tick." You have to wonder if Governor Ruth Ann Minner and her cohorts put in twenty-four hours pondering whether or not to give Kraft Foods $708,000 of our State taxes while demanding that school districts return $8-10 million each?

.....on Unrestricted warfare . The US Air force Institute for National Security Studies have developed a reasonable systems approach to deter non-state violent actors who they label as NSVA's. It is an exceptionally important report if we want to deter violent extremism and other potential violent actors that could threaten this nation and its security.
