North Carolina May Declare Official State Religion Under New Bill

The rather dated constitutional argument supporting this bill was first undercut by the 14th Amendment, and then by a series of Supreme Court decisions in the 1930s that stated (basically) that whatever the Federal government couldn't do to you (like abridge speech or establish religion), the states could not do either.
