Yesterday, in a 4-3 decision, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry, and that so-called civil unions do not provide the same rights as marriage.
Yes, ideally, Libertarians would like the government out of the marriage business all together. But as long as the State provides special privileges for those couples with marriage licenses, all American citizens have the right to equal treatment.
But with an official presidential ticket that straddles the issue and refuses to campaign on equal rights for all Americans under the Constitution, the national Libertarian Party continues to allow itself to be portrayed as GOP lite, which means that the Gay/Lesbian'Transsexual/Bisexual/Queer Americans who should naturally belong in our ranks are going to look at us like we showed up at the party wearing Pat Robertson masks.
