Las Vegas, South East Asia or China: Who Has the Highest Rate of Prostitution?

OK Bloggers, The race is on. We need some research to fulfill the needs of our deviant liberal friends, which nation or group of nations, the US, South East Asia, or China has the highest documentable rate of prostitution? I will give you a clue, the US and China do not post real numbers or give you the actual scale of the problem. As we all know what a fat horn dog Ben Franklin was, I thought this quantification of prostitution rates might make him proud.

I am not sure how proud he would be to know that there is a hooker dance party community in his native Philadelphia.

At the same time, I want to make it very clear that I find this type of exploitation deplorable and want to find ways and have helped the Global Mission for Comprehensive Human Development find ways to create better paying jobs for people who were forced into this lurid business.

But one thing is clear according to the interviews we have conducted, independent Hookers (without a pimp) have more fun. Those with a pimp are as miserable as Solzhenitsyn under Stalin. The independent ones feel more free than other people who always follow the rules. It begs the question would a libertarian government where everyone feels more free actually decrease prostitution?

I believe I read once that the highest rate per capita is in Macau (where it is legal).

Dear Bowly,

Thank you. Now I know where to move if John McCain wins the presidency. Brian

Really? That's the way I feel about Obama. Not that I like any of them.

Nonetheless, I have decided to beat the rush and left the country three years ago. Well, three years tomorrow, to be precise.

Dear Bowly,

I am sorry you feel that way about Obama. I think if you look at the Rev. John Hagee's statements on behalf of McCain you will understand my apprehension. "Bring about Armeggedon..." Uh-ugh. Nope. That does not jive in political logic except in a theocracy. Brian

I'm sure you are aware that my dislike of Obama is in no way an endorsement of McCain.

I dislike Obama for a host of reasons, most recently for his "nuanced" position on NAFTA and trade related issues.

I doubt McCain will be issuing in a theocracy. Dubya couldn't (FMA failed, for example) and he had a GOP congress for much of his term. McCain seems less likely to want one, and will be facing a Democratic congress.

That last bit sums up why I (slightly) prefer McCain; I subscribe to the split government theory. But of course I could be off my rocker.

McCain's just trying to get conservatives to show up to vote at this point. It's about the same as lying to a bunch of autoworkers that you're going to repeal NAFTA, I suppose. Maybe I should give Obama a break.

Dear Bowly,

I encourage you to read my critique of of NAFTA and CAFTA issues by the Friends through Nobel Laureate Joe Stigliz. Through another nobel star John Nash's theory of development, I know how we can do trade much better.

A Libertarian Martin Luther King Jr. Day post

In which we travel into interesting waters . . . (for a fairly long trip, so be prepared) Dr. King's 1968 book, Where do we go from here:  chaos or community? , is profound in that it criticizes anti-poverty programs for their piecemeal approach, as John Schlosberg of the Center for a Stateless Society  [C4SS] observes: King noted that the antipoverty programs of the time “proceeded from a premise that poverty is a consequence of multiple evils,” with separate programs each dedicated to individual issues such as education and housing. Though in his view “none of these remedies in itself is unsound,” they “all have a fatal disadvantage” of being “piecemeal,” with their implementation having “fluctuated at the whims of legislative bodies” or been “entangled in bureaucratic stalling.”   The result is that “fragmentary and spasmodic reforms have failed to reach down to the profoundest needs of the poor.” Such single-issue approaches also have “another common failing — ...

More of This, Please

Or perhaps I should say, "Less of this one, please." Or how about just, "None of them. Ever again. Please....For the Love of God." Sunshine State Poll: Grayson In Trouble The latest Sunshine State/VSS poll shows controversial Democratic incumbent Alan Grayson trailing former state Senator Dan Webster by seven points, 43 percent to 36 percent. A majority of respondents -- 51 percent -- disapprove of the job that Grayson is doing. Independents have an unfavorable view of him as well, by a 36/47 margin. Grayson has ignored the conventional wisdom that a freshman should be a quiet member who carefully tends to the home fires. The latest controversy involves his " Taliban Dan " advertisement, where he explicitly compares his opponent to the Taliban, and shows a clip of Webster paraphrasing Ephesians 5:22 -- "wives, submit to your husbands." An unedited version of the clip shows that Webster was actually suggesting that husba...

A reply to Salon's R. J. Eskrow, and his 11 stupid questions about Libertarians

Posts here have been in short supply as I have been living life and trying to get a campaign off the ground. But "11 questions to see if Libertarians are hypocrites" by R. J. Eskrow, picked up at Salon , was just so freaking lame that I spent half an hour answering them. In the end (but I'll leave it to your judgment), it is not that Libertarians or Libertarian theory looks hypocritical, but that the best that can be said for Mr. Eskrow is that he doesn't have the faintest clue what he's talking about. That's ok, because even ill-informed attacks by people like this make an important point:  Libertarian ideas (as opposed to Conservative ideas, which are completely different) are making a comeback as the dynamic counterpoint to "politics as usual," and so every hack you can imagine must be dragged out to refute them. Ergo:  Mr. Eskrow's 11 questions, with answers: 1.       Are unions, political parties, elections, and ...
