Waldo points this out in reference to today's story regarding lax enlistment procedures for the US military:

Let's see, we've taken in over 16,000 rapists, killers, and thieves during the same period that we booted out 12,000 gay service members, who had committed no other offense than to have a different sexual orientation.
You'd expect that to make people think about a lot of things. . . .

The United States military will let you serve as an open committer of "sexual offenses, manslaughter, "terrorist threats including bomb threats", burglary, kidnapping or abduction, aggravated assault and sexual assault". . . .
