As it is, President Obama using his weekly radio address to demand more money to send to the states to help them keep teachers from being laid off sounds like nothing but what it is: pure politics.
He's already devoted hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars to the Federal boondoggle that is Race to the Top, and in the end has employed a great many private sector data coaches, and consultants, and new State-level bureaucrats, but all the teacher positions funded have been temporary and subject to being yanked away the moment your district does something that might piss off Arne Duncan.
So stick it in your hat, Mr. President. You had four years to do something constructive for education, and you've blown it.
